ONE-YEAR INTENSIVE COURSE IN ACTING
We are excited to announce the introduction of a new 1-year intensive course that we believe meets the needs of students today.
The 1-year Intensive Course concentrates the traditional Ensemble course and fast-tracks students into productions earlier in their training than previously.
Student Productions
New students can expect to be able to audition for productions after just 15 weeks of classes (compared to nearly 12 months previously).
This will enable relatively new actors to work alongside more experienced actors and thus accelerate their learning.
In order to support new students and ensure that the performance experience is a positive one, directors for student productions will be selected from our team of top-level Ensemble-trained directors. These directors, all of whom work professionally in the industry, have been closely involved in the teaching program and, over the years, have produced student productions of an extraordinarily high quality. They are in the unique position of being able to incorporate individual coaching and tutoring during the rehearsal process so that each student can perform at his or her very best.
US-style Open Class
In order to concentrate the acting training into one year, we have also incorporated into our regular program a US-style Open Class, which is open to students at all levels. This enables less experienced students to observe and learn from the work of more advanced students. At the same time we have preserved separate classes at each student level.
Individual Assessment
As part of the Intensive program, students’ progress will be individually assessed each term. Each student will receive specific recommendations to help them maximise their progress and achieve their individual goals.
Fees
The cost per term for the 1-Year Intensive Course is the same as the cost per term for the first year of the 3-Year course (see Fees). There will be four terms of 10-weeks and a pre-Xmas term of 5 weeks.
Commitment
Because of the intensive nature of the course, students will be expected to be committed and to work hard but we anticipate the rewards to be great. The teaching and directing team is also committed to working hard and is dedicated to apply its considerable experience and skills to assisting each student to achieve his or her potential. Terms will be continuous, except for a one-week break over Easter (March 21, Good Friday, until Thursday March 27). There will be four 10-week terms and a 5-week term terminating prior to Christmas (last day of term: December 20).
Class Times
For the first term, new students taking the 1-year Intensive Course will be expected to attend classes on Monday evenings (from 6.30pm to 10.30pm) and all day (9am until 6pm) on Saturday. (Students wishing to take optional or elective subjects may need to attend on additional days). One-Year Intensive students will be encouraged to observe rehearsals of student productions (subject to the director's discretion), which are held on other nights of the week as well as weekends.
From Week 6 in Term 2 onwards, students will be eligible to audition for Student Productions. When cast in a production, students will need to make themselves available for rehearsals on week nights when they are not in class, as well as on weekends over the 5-week rehearsal period.
